Reminder of State's Open Ban on Burning

Over the last several days, fire companies from throughout the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier have been called to extinguish various brush and grass fires. Schuyler County Director of Emergency Management Bill Kennedy wants to reminds residents throughout the Finger Lakes about the state's open ban on burning


Kennedy explains why the ban is in effect for this time of year.

Violators of the open burning law are subject to both criminal and civil enforcement actions, with the minimum fine of $500 for a first offense.
