The last day of business for the Newark Diner will be Sunday
Jim and Betty McBride recently sold the diner to Larkin Enterprises, which will move it to Buffalo by month’s end.
Rochester Properties has purchased the land the diner occupies at 246 East Union St.
Jim McBride, who is 76, recently underwent major heart surgery. His wife has had back problems. They had been trying to sell the diner and retire for several years.
During its long history in Newark, the diner has operated under several names. General Hospital, the popular ABC soap opera, filmed there in 1993 and used the footage in a year’s worth of episodes.
The McBrides have owned the diner since 1985, and it has been in Newark since 1937.
