Finger Lakes Health emailed a release to the the newsroom Wednesday afternoon that said Geneva General could face "an impending crisis in Obstetrical care." They have gotten word that the OB doctors with Finger Lakes Medical Associates may decide to move their obstetrics practice to Newark-Wayne Hospital.
The release says "This action has been unofficially communicated to us, and is being considered despite Geneva General Hospital's substantial offer of short and long term financial support to provide appropriate care and to keep babies being born at Geneva General Hospital."
Dominic Fonte, the Chair of the Finger Lakes Health Board of Directors tells us the practice is under strain because one doctor has left and another is reducing work hours. Fonte says they will give any help they can.
In addition to financial help Finger Lakes Health will assist with recruiting.
Fonte says they want to keep the lines of communication open.
