Watkins Glen, Montour Falls, Odessa, Burdett Dundee, and 9 other fire companies were called to battle an early Saturday morning fire at the Schuyler County Shared Services Facility in Watkins Glen, which caused approximately $1 million in damage.
The building houses the county's soil and water conservation and highway departments and suffered heavy smoke damage. Only one major piece of equipment, a snow plow, was declared a total loss. It's believed that a truck might have been the cause of the fire but no official determination had been made.

Approximately 40 employees will temporarily be displaced. Most of the workers in the county's highway department will move back to the old facility. The county is looking at other facilities in the village to house the rest of the employees and say services will not be affected.
One firefighter was injured while battling the flames. He suffered a broken shoulder and is home recovering.
