The inaugural Wine Symposium of the Finger Lakes wasn't entirely dedicated to Riesling, the star wine variety in the region.
But the competition part of the event did focus exclusively on Riesling.
The Finger Lakes AVA Riesling Challenge, held Saturday at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, gave its top awards in four categories -- dry, medium dry, medium sweet and sweet. (AVA stands for American Viticultural Area).
