UPDATE: Water Main Break Fixed-Still Need To Boil

The Cayuga County Health Department has issued a mandatory boil water order for the village of Cayuga and Water District No. 3 in the Town of Aurelius after a test revealed a violation of a drinking water standards.

The village of Cayuga had a water main break Sunday which was repaired.

The water, coming from Cayuga Lake, is closely watched to be sure that filtering procedures are effective. The health department announced Sunday that the turbidity level, which measures cloudiness in the water, is exceeding the maximum amount allowed by law, increasing the chances that disease-causing bacteria and parasites may be present.

The health department is continuing to run tests on Cayuga Lake and anticipates that the boil water notice will be in place until later this week.
