It appears there will be no more games this season for the 11-4 Honeoye boys varsity basketball team. WFLR Sports has learned the district announced Tuesday the team will forfeit the rest of its games this season.
Five senior players have been suspended for five days over allegations of hazing on a bus ride home after a recent game. According to the Livingston County News, a parent of one of the players claims the “hazing” was the varsity team pulling members of the JV squad to the back of the bus for “wedgies."
According to WHAM in Rochester, head coach Jim Parshall has been fired and JV coach Jordan Trowbridge has voluntarily stepped down. Parshall was on board the school bus at the time of the alleged incidents. WHAM also reports it was the school bus driver that brought the incident to light and not a player or parent of a player. The district took action after reviewing video captured by security cameras on the school bus.
Honeoye, which twice defeated Dundee this season, competes in the Finger Lakes West and was scheduled to play Naples at home Wednesday in a game with league title implications.
Several attempts to reach Superintendent David Bills Tuesday have resulted in no returned phone calls. According to the school district's website, the board of education will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight.
