At the start of this year, the Daylight House here in Auburn closed. The Auburn Citizen reports the house, which gave temporary shelter to homeless women and children, had a year-to-year contract that was not renewed. The not-for-profit charity first opened in February 2011 on Seymour Street. Reportedly, financial problems are not the reason for its closing.
A board member tells the paper the house's director, Debbie Cornall, had some personal problems that led to the Daylight House shutting down last month. The house had opened as a response to the Chapel House shelter opening its doors only to men.
