Were you waiting for that familiar "thunk" on the porch this morning and there was nothing? For the first time in more than a hundred years, Finger Lakes readers of the Syracuse Post Standard did not get a paper and don't bother going to the store.
The general circulation schedule for the paper is now three days a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. David Rubin is Dean Emeritus for the Newhouse School of Journalism at Syracuse University and he recently told us it's a matter of the papers owners, the Newhouse family wanting to cut costs and refocus news efforts to a digital first approach.
On the 4 other days of the week, a small print edition will be available in Onondaga County only.
