A 63 year old Corning man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Corning Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Edward Bassett is charged with third-degree felony grand larceny, indicating the alleged theft was between 3 and 50-THOUSAND dollars.

The investigation into the missing funds started in January 2011 after a VFW member filed a complaint with police and the State Racing and Wagering Board. A longtime member and former commander, Bassett is believed to have taken thousands of dollars from games of chance he ran at the Corning VFW.
The Schuyler County District Attorney's office is prosecuting the case because of a conflict with the Steuben County DA's office.
Bassett recently resigned from his position as town of Hornby Planning Clerk
