Volunteering is sometimes a thankless service to the public, but the Unity House wants to know about your commitment and dedication to the greater good. The third annual Fred Atkins Community Service Award will be handed out to someone who's gone above and beyond their call of duty. Kelly Buck is the Director of Marketing and Development, and she says you don't have to live in Cayuga County to qualify.
There's a cash prize of $250 for the winner, plus another $250 for a charity of their choice in Cayuga County. Buck says the award is named after a 30-year member of the board, Fred Atkins.
Retirement wasn't an option for him.
You can fill out an application at the Unity House website. They'll be accepted until Friday, March 8th. The winner will also be celebrated at the yearly dinner for board members in April.
