Accident Shuts Down Routes 5 & 20

Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports that on January 23 2012 at 8:07 am Sheriff's Deputies responded to a three car property damage accident on Route 5&20 in the Montezuma Flats near the Seneca/Cayuga County Line. 

A tractor trailer driven by Todd A. Wilcox age 45 of 21 Hobson Ave. Auburn NY was westbound when an east bound pick-up truck driven by Aaron L. Maybury age 41 of 1288 Hecker Rd. Waterloo, NY attempted to pass an eastbound NYSDOT salt truck. Maybury's and Wilcox's vehicles struck each other. 

A ladder rack that came of off Maybury's pick-up truck due to impact struck a third vehicle being driven westbound by Emily A. Carpenter age 40 of 7251 Potter Rd. Auburn NY.

The road was shut down for about three hours while the road was cleared.  

The Wilcox and Maybury vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The Carpenter vehicle sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

There were no injuries.

The Seneca County HazMat team responded for a fuel leak.  The NYSP, Seneca Falls PD and Seneca Falls Fire, Magee Fire Dept, NYS DEC all assisted at the scene.

There were several other accidents Wednesday, all blamed on the snow-covered highways.
