Update, 11:00 a.m.: Auburn Community Hospital's Vice President of Administration, Tom Filiak, reads a statement from the hospital.
Auburn Community Hospital is facing the biggest Medicare pay cut of any hospital in the nation under a new payment system that took effect January 1 that rewards or penalizes hospitals based on how well they care for patients.
According to the Post Standard, Auburn's federal Medicare payments were reduced 0.9 percent, or about $100,000 for the year, because it scored poorly on patient satisfaction surveys and measures showing how often hospitals give recommended care.
Nearly all hospitals in Central New York are getting pay cuts smaller than Auburn’s.
