Schuyler County Sheriff William Yessman says a recently arrested Sergeant and jail administrator did not have access to the department's funds. This after Monterey fire chief and his wife are accused of embezzling more than 100-THOUSAND dollars from their volunteer fire department.
Horseheads State Police claim Larry States and his wife, Kimberly, who served as department treasurer, misappropriated department funds over a period of five years. An audit and investigation by the state Comptroller's office discovered the couple used the money to help pay for their home mortgage, cell phones, groceries, concert tickets, family vacations and a personal vehicle.

The couple were arrested Friday and charged with grand larceny. The investigation is continuing and will be expanded to include the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office, where Larry States served as a sergeant and jail administrator.
States has also been placed on suspension.
