The Auburn City Council is putting the brakes on creating a local water and sewer authority. The project has been in development for several years, but the Council expressed uneasiness over the control of water rates. Control over that would be handed to a water authority board, of which the city of Auburn would only have two out of eight votes.
However, creating such an authority would lift the burden of maintaining equipment off the city's collective shoulders.
City Manager Doug Selby says a council vote is expected in the next two weeks.
