He wasn't on the lamb that long. Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 64 year old Weedsport man for this morning's hold up at the First Niagara Bank on Route 34 in Weedsport. It's alleged that Michael E. Burr entered the bank at approximately 10:00am this morning and demanded cash from a teller. He claimed to have a gun but none was shown. Burr then fled the bank with cash. Bank employees reported the robbery to 911.
The Village of Weedsport Police Department was dispatched along with units from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police. While on the way to the scene Weedsport Police Officer Sean Crehan came upon Burr who fit the description of the suspect given by bank employees. Officer Crehan took Burr into custody at which time it was determined that he was not armed and that he did possess the stolen cash. The Weedsport Police Department then turned the investigation over to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael E. Burr has been charged with 3rd Degree Felony Robbery. He was arraigned in the Village of Weedsport Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of 10-thousand dollars cash bail
Quick work by a Weedsport police officer as the officer captured a bank robbery suspect this morning near the First Niagara Bank.
The 10:30 a.m. bank robbery was reported at 9015 N Seneca Street. Weedsport police responded with Cayuga County sheriff's deputies assisting.
Dispatchers quickly sent out a description of the suspect, the manwas captured nearby. No other details have been released.
