Six Members Of Interlaken Amish Family Hurt In Car-Buggy Crash

Six members of an Amish family from Interlaken were tossed from their buggy Sunday morning on County Road 139 in the Town of Ovid when they were rear ended by a car driven by 29-year old Natalie Covert from Ovid.

Seneca County Sheriff Jack Stenberg tells us the buggy was in plain sight and the accident should have been avoidable.

The driver of the buggy, 39-year old Benjamin Esh and 16-year old Katie Esh, were taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial. They were both treated and released. 3-year old Abner was also transported to Strong Memorial by Mercy Flight where he is still listed in guarded condition. 37-year old Fannie Esh was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel. The other occupants of the buggy 1-year old Benjamin  Esh, 7-year old Sierra Esh went to Cayuga Medical Center in Tompkins County for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and then released to family

Covert has been ticketed for Failure to Reduce Speed Approaching a Horse and will have to answer the charge in Ovid Town Court.
