Two Cows and a Horse Die In Romulus Barn Fire

The Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports that on 11/24/2012 at 3:24pm Sheriff's Deputies responded to a barn fire at 5907 Rt 414 Romulus.

Upon Deputies arrival the barn was fully engulfed in flames. The homeowner - Jesse Stoltzfus age 26 reported burning some debris behind the barn, then later finding his barn on fire. He attempted to enter the burning building to rescue his 2 cows and a horse, but was repelled by the flames and the animals perished.

Deputies report Stoltzfus suffered some burns to the hands but will seek treatment on his own.

Fire Depts from Romu lus, Varick, Fayette, Ovid, Lodi and Interlaken were on the scene along with Seneca County Emergency Management. The barn was a total loss but a nearby barn structure that contained numerous chickens was saved by firefighters.

The dollar amount of loss is unknown at this time.

The structure was insured by Amish Insurance.
