UPDATE: Man Indentified In Standoff And House Fire in Penn Yan

A Penn Yan man faces charges after barricading himself inside his Main Street home Tuesday and then setting it on fire.  The incident began at around 1:30 and lasted approximately 45 minutes.  It prompted authorities to shutdown Main Street between Court Street and North Avenue and all Penn Yan schools were placed on lockdown.

Greg Garno apparently barricaded himself inside at 348 North Main with the intent to do harm to himself and others.  Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike, whose deputies assisted village police at the scene, explained what happened next....

Before Garno set the house on fire, Penn Yan Police Chief Mark Hulse tells us he let dogs that were inside the home out. Penn Yan and Benton firefighters extinguished the blaze.  Garno was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital for treatment. Garno was alone inside the house when the incident took place.
