Today in Union Springs, voters will decide whether or not the fire department can buy a rescue boat. The department wants to purchase a 30-foot landing craft/rescue boat that has sonar, a big enough deck to take divers out, and a fire pump.
The boat isn't cheap -- about &275,000, with $125,000 of that coming from the department's budget. The rest of the money would come from a 10-year bond.
Fire department officials say the boat would replace two amphibious ducks that were destroyed in an explosion two years ago. Voters can make their decision today at the Union Springs Fire Department, 257 Cayuga St. in Union Springs.
