Last night, Auburn High became Lincoln Center. Presidential historian and biographer Doris Kearns Goodwin spoke at the school last night about her book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
The book, and Goodwin's speech, touched on Lincoln's relationship with his secretary of state, William Seward. The two were once rivals for the Republican nomination in
1860. Seward, the former New York governor and senator, accepted Lincoln's offer to become his secretary of state.
Goodwin's book inspired the film Lincoln, which premieres in movie theaters nationwide today. The Seward House in Auubrn sponsored the event.
