Democrat Dan Maffei appears to be headed back to Washington taking back the seat he lost to Representative Ann Marie Buerkle 2 years ago. With 91 percent of the vote counted as of midnight, Maffei led Buerkle by 8 percentage points, 50 percent to 42 percent. He came close but did not claim his win yet.
Buerkle did not concede instead she is waiting for vote tallies from rural parts of the District.
According to the Post Standard, more than 21,500 absentee ballots had been distributed in the four-county 24th District, and at least 16,000 completed ballots had been returned by Monday. But the wait for a decision could be a long one: Officials in Wayne County said they won’t start counting absentee ballots until November 19th.
