Another Steuben County soldier has lost his life while serving his country in Afghanistan.
22 year old Ryan Jayne, a Corning native, who recently was living in Canisteo, died over the weekend, the result of a roadside bomb. The Hornell Evening Tribune reports Jayne was a member of the 21B Army Reserves and was home in Canisteo on a 10 day leave and left to go back to Afghanistan last Monday.
Jayne was a combat engineer and a driver. His crew would clear roads and find explosive devices. Jayne was a 2008 graduate of the Corning-Painted Post school disrict.
Also killed in the explosion were 29 year old staff Sgt. Daine Venne of Port Henry, NY and 27 year old Spc. Brett Gornewicz of Alden NY.
Zachary Smith of Hornell was killed in Afghanistan in January of 2010 and Devin Snyder of Wayland was killed by enemy fire in June of 2011
