Members of the Colleges' co-ed a cappella group Perfect Third have their eyes set on New York City. The group has been invited to open for a performance of the world-famous Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday, Nov. 17.
"Everyone knows the Rockettes - but not many people can say they've performed at Radio City Music Hall," says Sara Winant '15, a member of the a cappella group. "We're hoping this will be the big stepping out for Perfect Third - our turn to take center stage."
Winant recalls seeing the show as a child - and even had the chance to perform as part of the opening act with her high school. Energized by this previous privilege, Winant and her fellow Perfect Third members contacted the show's programmers - and were met with a positive response when they were immediately asked to send in footage of past performances.
After being approved by the show's committee, the singers were formally invited to join the stage. The group has been rehearsing for weeks, and continues to perfect their choice of holiday arrangements. The ensemble will entertain pre-Thanksgiving crowds from around the world with renditions of "O Holy Night," and "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
The group is currently working to raise money for its travels - the first trip in the group's history. In addition to support from the Colleges, Perfect Third held a "Pies for Professors" fundraiser, which allowed students across campus to donate a dollar to the trip's fund in exchange for a vote of who would be "pied" in the face. Pied were Campus Safety Officer Matt Reale, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Montrose Streeter and Area Coordinator Peter Fiannaca.
"It's really nice to see so many students, faculty and staff excited for the group," says Winant. "We've gotten a lot of support - and we hope this is the first trip of many for Perfect Third."
Perfect Third will also perform on campus later in the semester. The group's holiday show will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. in St. John's Chapel.
