Shigellosis Cases Rise in Onondaga County

More people in Onondaga County are being treated for shigellosis for the second time this year. Health officials says about 120 cases of the intestinal disorder have been confirmed, with another 50 cases possible.

A bacterial infection is the root cause of the illness.

The county's health department says you can protect yourself by frequently washing your hands with soap, washing all fruits and vegetables before eating them, and throw away used diapers the right way.
