There is a deficit in Auburn's water fund. Last night at the weekly city council meeting, Municipal Utilities director Vicky Murphy suggested raising the price of water for customers using the city's filtration plant.
In a Powerpoint presentation, Murphy made her case for upping water rates by 12%. Murphy said prices more or less have remain the same over the last few years while the cost to produce water has risen 7% each year.
The proposed price hikes would affect about 55,000 customers.
