(October 10th, 2012) - Columbus Day Weekend marked the opening of Myer Farm Distillers, a New York State Farm Distillery located in Ovid, along the Cayuga Wine Trail. Myer Farm Distillers craft distills a range of spirits using International Certification Services (ICS) certified organic grain, grown on site at Myer Farm—one of the largest and oldest operating organic farms in the Northeast.
“At Myer Farm Distillers, we are proud to both plant the seed and produce the spirit in order to, as we say, go from field to flask,” says Joe Myer, president of Myer Farm Distillers and co-owner with his brother John Myer, who is vice president of the company and proprietor of Myer Farm. “We had a wonderful crowd for the holiday weekend and poured more than 750 samples.”
Available exclusively on-site at the tasting room, Myer Farm Distillers currently offers Vodka, Corn Whiskey and Gin. Several other products will be released soon, including Blueberry-Orange Vodka, a Strawberry-Mint Wheat Spirit, an un-aged Wheat Spirit and an aged Wheat Whiskey.
The Myer brothers designed the building that houses the still and tasting room to reflect the old distilleries of Scotland. It features a hip-roofed and pagoda-topped still-house, finished in hand cut and chiseled wall stone. Located at 7350 State Route 89, in Ovid, the building pays homage to Scottish malt houses and will be a fitting host to the local, single-malt Myer Farm Distillers also intends to produce. A viewing window into the still room enables visitors to see the copper still and watch the distilling process.
