CNY Lyme Disease Cases On The Rise

The Cayuga County Health Department wants to get the word out that according to the state Health Department cases of Lyme disease  in Central New York are on the rise . Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by the bite of an infected deer tick.

 

County  Director of Environmental Health  Eileen O’Connor tells us many times the first sign that you have been bitten is a circular rash on the skin.

The symptoms can escalate.


 

 

 

O’Connor says people are most likely to get biten out in the woods or in tall grass areas.

Deer tick nymphs can and do bite and are really hard to spot.
