SKANEATELES -- A dog born-and-raised in Skaneateles, a Newfoundland, is competing at the prestigious Westminster dog show next week.
Michelle Morris has raised dogs at Rosewood Newfoundlands for the past 20 years now, and she says Charles is extra special. Like all Newfoundlands, Charles, who will turn three in March, is a big dog -- nearly 140 pounds -- and he's one of 15 Newfoundlands who will be competing against each other on the second day of the Westminster dog show, Wednesday the 14th.

If Charles wins among the Newfoundlands, it's on to compete in the Working dog group; then, possibly the ultimate gold ring, the Best of Show competition. Charles has excellent bloodlines; his great-grandfather won, Lewis, Best of Show at Westminster in 2004 -- only the second Newfoundland to ever win the top award.

There are seven groups of dogs that compete at Westminster -- along with Working, there is Herding, Hound, Sporting, Non-sporting, Terrier and Toy. Click here to see the website of the Westminster Kennel Club.
