Big Flats Facility Won't House Immigrant Children

The former Sikorsky facility in Big Flats is now off the list of places being considered as a place to house a portion of the thousands of Central American children crossing over into the United States at the Texas border.

In a statement, Congressman Tom Reed says his office received confirmation Wednesday from the General Services Administration that the Southern Tier facility was no longer being considered.

Late last month, FEMA contacted Chemung County to say they were interested in using the 105 thousand square foot facility as a reception center to process or house the immigrant children.
