Tick & Lyme Disease Activity on the Rise in Yates County

As many as 300 thousand Americans are diagnosed with Lyme Disease every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Yates County Public Health Educator Kathy Swartout says numbers are on the rise locally as well.

Julia Field, a Communicable Disease Nurse with Yates County Public Health, says symptoms will begin within three to 30 days of a bite.

A doctor will also consider your symptoms, the history of tick attachment, any traveling you've recently done when diagnosing Lyme disease. For pets, tick scoopers are available at the Millstone Veterinary Clinic on State Route 14A in Dundee.
