The Joint Senate Task Force issued their report a couple weeks ago on how to deal with the rising heroin epidemic in New York State. Lawmakers held hearings statewide, including Auburn, and heard from mental health professionals, law enforcement, and local officials. Their report includes several bills to beef up education, treatment, and law enforcement in combating heroin use. Senator Jim Seward is part of the task force, and he told us what surprised him during all those hearings.
Legislators are expected to vote on the package in Albany later today.
