Grandmother Charged With Assault

A Steuben County grandmother has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon following a weekend incident at her town of Avoca home.

Bath State Police say Edith Plummer would not allow the father of her grandchild  have his court-ordered visitation when he went to her home to pick up his child. When the father refused to leave, the 59 year old Plummer allegedly kicked him several times and struck him in the chest with a small sledgehammer.  The man was able to disarm Plummer and called 9-1-1.

He was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Ira Davenport Hospital.  Plummer was issued appearance tickets
