Check for the warning signs. New York State Department of Health is reporting a widespread level of flu activity in the last week, with influenza being reported in 45 counties plus New York City. According to the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control, there has been 560 laboratory-confirmed influenza reports during the week ending December 21st. That is a 99 percent increase over the last week.
Ontario County Public Health Director Mary Beer says Ontario County has only 15 confirmed cases since October.
Beer says you should still protect yourself.
Flu often starts with the abrupt onset of fever, headache, fatigue, and body aches. Also be looking for fever, weakness, flushed skin and red, watery eyes, dry cough and sore throat.
Cayuga County Health Department says they have only seen a handful of confirmed reports of the flu.
