Bovine Reproduction and A.I. Training Course
1:00 AM - 1:00 AM

While proper artificial insemination technique is important in any farm’s reproductive program, understanding the cow’s anatomy and physiology is also essential.  In this two-day class, participants will learn the biology of bovine reproduction, giving them a better understanding of the whole reproductive system.  Hands-on practice with cows will teach them proper insemination technique.  The training will consist of both classroom sessions and hands-on practice.  Over the last week of September, Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Northwest New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team will offer two classes, one in Ontario County and one in Wyoming County.

Monday September 26 and Tuesday September 27

Willow Bend Farm, 1159 County Road 7 Shortsville, NY

Taught in English

9:30am- 3:30pm

 Thursday September 29 & Friday September 30

HY- Hope Farms, 5908 Horseshoe Lake Rd., Stafford, NY

Taught in Spanish

9:30am- 3:30pm

Over the course of two days, students will learn the basics of bovine reproduction.  The course will offer as much hands-on practice as possible, but it’s important to note that this is a beginner’s course meant to teach the basics of artificial insemination.  Participants should expect to practice inseminating cows on a regular basis in order to become proficient.

Jonna Egli and Abraham Cohen of Genex Cooperative, Inc. will teach the class.

$175 registration for enrollees of the NWNY Team. $225 for non-enrollees*.  Materials & lunches included both days.  Classes will be capped at 15 people per site.
