Thompson Abbey Day
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park will be holding a "Thompson Abbey Day" event on Sunday, September 21st. This event, inspired by the popular PBS television show "Downton Abbey," will showcase activities and period dress from the same era.

Downton Abbey features the lives of an aristocratic family in Post-Edwardian (early 1900’s) England. This is the same era that Sonnenberg’s benefactress and owner, Mary Clark Thompson, was very active at Sonnenberg including creating the much loved gardens and treasures at the historic estate. Since the era and events for Sonnenberg and Downton Abbey—such as the sinking of the Titanic on which Mrs. Thompson was supposed to sail — echo so closely, the inspiration for this event was easy to see.

Guests are invited but not required to come dressed as their favorite Downton Abbey characters or in other period costume. Early-nineteenth century activities will include family picnics, lawn bowling, badminton, croquet, and carriage driving demonstrations. The day’s activities will also feature vignettes from Sonnenberg’s upcoming Mansion Mystery live theatre events in October and an “Abbey discussion” with WXXI’s Danielle Abramson, host of “Talking Abbey Live.” See Sonnenberg’s website, www.sonnenberg.org, or call 585-394-4922 for complete schedule of events and times.

Activities will be from 1 - 4 p.m. and are included in regular admission for the park on that day. Regular admission, which always includes access to the gardens and mansion, is: $12 Adults, $10 Seniors (60 +) or AAA Members (w/valid AAA member card), $6 Military personnel with Military ID or Students (13 – 17 and college students with valid college ID), $1 Children (4-12 years), and Free for children 3 and under.

Event Sponsored in part by Finger Lakes Woman Magazine.
