Athena ACE Nominees Sought

The Athena Award for Continuing Education (ACE) Association celebrates the 8th annual year of the Athena ACE Scholarship.  Application forms are available in the “Application” section on our website, http://athenagenevaace.us11.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=94e4387342355bb2c4e021ce1&id=111c8b0142&e=f9a60a1f9f and can be submitted electronically to AthenaACEA@gmail.com or by mail to the following address:

Applications for the scholarship will be accepted until Saturday, June 25th at 4:00 pm.

The scholarship is open to women ages 25 and older that are enrolled (or plan to be enrolled) in a qualified educational program by September 30, 2016, and, who live in eastern Ontario, Seneca or Yates counties. Qualified educational programs may include: formal higher education (college degree) programs or any certification or training program (including a GED) that is necessary for the recipient to advance in her career or pursue a stated career goal.
 
The Athena ACE Scholarship supports women developing their capacity for leadership in our community by pursuing additional education.  The scholarship will be awarded to one or more women that demonstrate the qualities promoted by the ATHENA International program: excellence, creativity and initiative in her profession, valuable service by contributing time and energy to her community, and assistance to other women in reaching their full potential.
 
The Athena ACE Association will award up to $2500 in scholarship assistance.  The recipient(s) will be announced in August, 2016.

Penn Yan Community Chorus concert

The Penn Yan Community Chorus, directed by Jennifer Kraemer, will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, June 5,  2 PM at the First Baptist Church in Penn Yan. The theme for the concert is “Hearth and Soul,” featuring folk songs and spirituals. Lucinda Loomis and Linda Payne will accompany the chorus on piano. There is no admission charge for this concert. A free-will offering is collected to support the chorus' financial needs.

Jr. Iron Chef Competition
1:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Modeled after the TV show “Chopped”, youth will be provided Festival food and will be asked to reinvent their food item into healthier and tastier recipes, using some pantry items, local foods, maybe a surprise or two, and their own culinary creativity!

All ingredients and cooking tools and supplies will be provided. Up to 4 Teams of 3-5 middle school and/or high school students can participate and must pre-register. Youth do not need to be existing 4-H members in order to participate. Top scoring team(s) will be invited to participate in the NYS 4-H Jr. Iron Chef contest at the NYS Fair.

Registration is required for the event. RSVP by Monday, May 23rd.

Walking Trail

In partnership with Our Town Rocks (OTR), Dundee Central School is pleased to share the opening of the  DCS Walking Trail. The DCS Walking Trail is a walking course that has been identified for community members to walk inside the school building during the cold winter months. One course includes stairs and a second does not. The Walking Trail is clearly marked and can be accessed by parking by the outside basketball court and using the entrance by the nurse's office. The Walking Trail is open to the public on days that school is in session, Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 7:15 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Working together to promote health and wellness in our community!

Parkinsons Support Group

The Parkinsons Support Group of the Finger Lakes will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday May 25 1 pm at Wood Library 134 N. Main Street Canandaigua.  Tobi Keefe and Colleen Cohen both from VAMC will be this month's presenters. The New York Wine & Culinary Center Hosts

Garden Tent Mixer: Shades of Rosé May 25, 2016 

Held in NYWCC Gardens and Garden Tent 6-8pm 

Guests will taste a variety of Rosé, along with other wines, from a great line-up of New York wineries. The NYWCC culinary team will create delicious small bites that pair perfectly with Rosé, including: hummus with assorted breads; egg salad & kimchi canapés; and turkey & brie pinwheels. 

The evening’s confirmed participating wineries include: Atwater Vineyards, Billsboro Winery, Casa Larga Vineyards, Coyote Moon Vineyards, Damiani Wine Cellars, Fulkerson Winery, McGregor Vineyard, Wagner Vineyards, Zugibe Vineyards, and 240 Days.
