Does a typical day’s meals in your household include breakfast in your car and a frozen pizza or chicken from a bucket?  Would you appreciate new ways to make nutritious and delicious meals that you and your family will eat and enjoy? Would you like to learn how to spend less on healthy foods and free up money for other things? How about spending more quality time with your kids?  If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions then call now and sign up for the Cooking Matters for Families class series being sponsored by Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension on Mondays from 4:30pm-6pm starting April 27th and ending June 8th.  These classes will be held at the Ovid Fire Department at 2136 Brown Street in Ovid, NY.  Dinner will be prepared by your child, a professional chef and you.  Plus, you’ll get those same basic groceries to take home to recreate the same meal later in the week. Don’t miss out on this opportunity! Advance registration is required in order for us to better prepare for the classes and space is limited! Call Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension at 315-539-9251 or email seneca@cornell.edu to register.  The course series is free for income qualifying families, otherwise the cost is $10 per class. These classes are part of Seneca CCE HELPS (Healthy Eating and Living for People in Seneca) made possible through a grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation.

Cooking Matters for Families is a nationally recognized program sponsored by Share Our Strength geared to teach people how to choose, buy and add more vegetables, fruits and whole grains to your daily food intake; and learn how to make convenient, healthy, and tasty meals from scratch for you and your whole family.  A professional volunteer Chef will teach time-saving food preparation and cooking techniques and recipes while our dynamic Nutrition Educator teaches you the ins and outs of what to eat and why, how much to eat and the importance of portion control, and how to choose super foods that will feed your body and mind the proper health it is craving.
