Athena ACE Nominees Sought

The Athena Award for Continuing Education (ACE) Association celebrates the 8th annual year of the Athena ACE Scholarship.  Application forms are available in the “Application” section on our website, and can be submitted electronically to or by mail to the following address:

Applications for the scholarship will be accepted until Saturday, June 25th at 4:00 pm.

The scholarship is open to women ages 25 and older that are enrolled (or plan to be enrolled) in a qualified educational program by September 30, 2016, and, who live in eastern Ontario, Seneca or Yates counties. Qualified educational programs may include: formal higher education (college degree) programs or any certification or training program (including a GED) that is necessary for the recipient to advance in her career or pursue a stated career goal.
The Athena ACE Scholarship supports women developing their capacity for leadership in our community by pursuing additional education.  The scholarship will be awarded to one or more women that demonstrate the qualities promoted by the ATHENA International program: excellence, creativity and initiative in her profession, valuable service by contributing time and energy to her community, and assistance to other women in reaching their full potential.
The Athena ACE Association will award up to $2500 in scholarship assistance.  The recipient(s) will be announced in August, 2016.

Walking Trail

In partnership with Our Town Rocks (OTR), Dundee Central School is pleased to share the opening of the  DCS Walking Trail. The DCS Walking Trail is a walking course that has been identified for community members to walk inside the school building during the cold winter months. One course includes stairs and a second does not. The Walking Trail is clearly marked and can be accessed by parking by the outside basketball court and using the entrance by the nurse's office. The Walking Trail is open to the public on days that school is in session, Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 7:15 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Working together to promote health and wellness in our community!

Dresden/Torrey Memorial Day Service
10:30 AM - 1:00 PM

The Town of Torrey will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 30th at 10:30 am at the Dresden United Methodist Church on Cornelia Street.  John Lemke, as President Lincoln, will be the guest speaker.  Jeff Waite will lead the Penn Yan Middle School Band.  Sheryl Parkhurst will lead the Memorial Day Choir.  A solo will be performed by PYA student Ryan Smith.  Don Chambers will read the Roll of Honor.  Following the service, Grand Marshall Arne Christensen will head up a parade to the cemetery, where a service will be conducted under the direction of Don Chambers and other members of American Legion Post 1571.  J. Jeffrey Stempien and Philip Bracht will play taps.  After the cemetery service there will be a chicken barbecue at the church.  Dinners are: adults $9.00, children 6-12 $5.00, children 5 & under free, and halves $5.00.  Take-outs are available.  All are invited.

Memorial Day Chicken BBQ & Bake Sale

Memorial Day Chicken BBQ and bake sale, sponsored by Bloomfield’s American Heritage Girls Troop NY0024.  Immediately following Bloomfield’s parade and memorial service – serving until 1:30 or until sold out.  Location is the Congregational Church parking lot, across from Elton Park in Bloomfield.  Price is $9 presale from any American Heritage Girl, or $10 on Memorial Day.  Price includes a half chicken, salt potatoes, coleslaw and a roll, by King’s Catering.  Veterans will get a free cookie!
