Summer Cook-Out Cook-Off!
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Do your family and friends always tell you make the best burger in town? Have you always thought your Mom’s macaroni salad recipe is better than your Aunt Berta’s? If so, come prove it at Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension’s first ever Summer Cook-Out Cook-Off!
Join us in the Cornell Cooperative Extension Culinary Tent in Lafayette Park at Waterloo’s Celebrate/Commemorate Memorial Day festival. The categories are BEST Burger, BEST Side Dish, BEST Veggie Dish, and BEST Dessert, so get your Summer cook-out and picnic recipes ready and see how they stack up to your friends’ and neighbors’. Come on, you are getting together with people for a cook-out on Monday anyway. Why not prepare some of what you are having ahead of time and seeing how it stacks up on Sunday?
General rules for the CCE Summer Cook-Out Cook-Off:
BEST Side Dish, BEST Veggie Dish (unless a grilled dish), and BEST Dessert all have to be prepared ahead of time. Prepare enough to give out samples for the judges’ taste testing. Whatever category you choose, make sure to bring a paper copy of your recipe. Prizes will be given, along with your name and recipe posted on our website and Facebook page, so don’t miss this opportunity to win those bragging rights about your recipe!
BEST Burger can be made from beef, turkey, tofu, mongoose...you get the idea. If you can make it into a burger and it is edible, it’s good to go. You will be cooking your burger at the tent, so make sure to bring all your ingredients with you. We’ll have the grill!
BEST Side Dish can be potato salad, macaroni salad, fruit salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, etc., but it doesn’t need to be traditional. Think summer. Whatever you love to have with your cookout is fair game.
BEST Veggie Dish doesn’t just need to be Three Bean Salad. It can be anything to prove that veggies don’t have to be boring. If your veggie side happens to be grilled, you can bring the ingredients and prepare and cook it at the tent, otherwise, please bring it with you completed.
BEST Dessert Dish can be anything that tickles your sweet tooth, from good ‘ole all-American apple pie, to your favorite chocolate chip cookie, to your killer Jello.
Registration by noon on Friday, May 22nd is a must! For more information and to sign-up, please call Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension at 315-539-9251 or email email@example.com.
