Whiskey Hollow Birding Field Trip

Whiskey Hollow & Vicinity

Saturday, May 25, ¾ day

Joe Brin 638-8309

Whiskey Hollow is a protected, unique area owned by CNY Land Trust (formerly Save the County) and offering caves, natural springs, and trails through mature, deep woods. The National Audubon Society has named the Hollow an Important Bird Area, and it has been a favorite spot for local birders since 1960. According to BirdWatchingDaily.com, a recent New York State Breeding Bird Atlas block including Whiskey Hollow listed 85 species as possible breeders, with 58 species eventually confirmed. This field trip will scour the Hollow for spring migrants and breeding birds, including several Vireos, Cerulean, Hooded, and Mourning Warblers, Scarlet Tanager, and Barred Owl, which nests there, as well as Acadian Flycatcher, a bird found only a few places in Region 5. Moderate to difficult due to a few steep, muddy trails. Contact Joe Brin at the number above for more information and to register for the trip.
