Celebration Exhibit Kicks Off Holidays at the Arts Center

Holiday shoppers looking for unique, affordable gifts will have a wide variety to choose from at the Arts Center of Yates County’s annual “Celebration” exhibit, opening on Friday, November 21st.

Exhibit organizers make a point of featuring artists whose work lends itself to giving and many of the Arts Center’s member artists create wonderful gift items for this holiday show.    This year’s featured artists include the return of the ever-popular Junkyard Friends, with a wide variety of whimsical sculpture created from recycled tools and hardware as well as marbled paper goods designed and created by long-time Arts Center member Nancy Langford.  In addition, the exhibit features work from several artists new to the Center.

Husband and wife team Glenn and Naomi Lapp create primitive and traditional art pieces with their small, stylized wooden buildings and hand-quilted work.  Leah Corey from Bath creates intricate beadwork on a surprising array of objects.  Original work from fabric designer Esther Yaloz, formerly of Israel, and copper and metal jewelry by Louise MacDougall of Windsor, Ontario will lend an international air to the exhibit.

At the Arts Center this holiday season you can find gifts in all shapes, sizes and price ranges.  Find glass ornaments by Eli Applebaum and Pam Sweeny, and wooden ornaments from Fred Brockway and Robert Kappel.   You’re sure to find something that appeals from our large selection of locally created pottery, jewelry, original paintings and prints.  Holiday cards created with original artwork are also available and can be printed to order.

The opening for Celebration is Friday, November 21st from 5 – 7 pm at the Arts Center, 127 Main Street in Penn Yan.  Bellangelo Winery will provide a wine tasting at the reception which will also include music and hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to talk with the artists.  The exhibit opening is free and open to the public.  The Celebration exhibit will run through the end of the year.
