The National Alliance on Mental Illness presents Family 2 Family course

Fish Stocking Program

Ontario County Soil and Water Conservation District provides habitat improvement services, to include sponsoring two fish stocking programs to area residents. Annually, the District offers rainbow trout, koi, largemouth bass, triploid grass carp, yellow perch, catfish and fathead minnows in the fall.

Rose Hill Mansion Opens

The Rose Hill Mansion will open for the 2015 season on Friday, May 1. Administered by the Geneva Historical Society, the Greek Revival mansion and National Historical Landmark perches above Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes.

Rose Hill Mansion is located at 3373 Route 96A, about a mile south of Routes 5&20, near Geneva, New York. The house is open May 1 to October 31, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays and July 4. The last daily tour is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sundays. The grounds are open year round, free of charge.

Soil Field Health Day

The Western NY Soil Health Field Daywill be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 12:30-6:00 PM, at the Duppengiesser Dairy, 7835 Butler Rd, Perry, NY. Nationally recognized soil health experts Ray Archuleta, “Ray the Soils Guy,” NRCS, Greensboro, NC, and Frank Gibbs, known for his “tile line smoke machine,” Professional Soil Scientist, farmer, and formerly NRCS, Rawson, OH, will be speaking on the importance of good soil health, and demonstrating how to evaluate the health of your soil. Planting equipment will be displayed and discussed. There will be a Cover Crop Walk through plots established on the farm. WNY Crop Management, NRCS and Cornell staff will be presenters.  DEC pesticide credits are pending, and CCA credits will be available. Cost for the session and dinner is $10 for those preregistered by August 19; $15 at the door. 

 

An Advanced Soil Health Morning Session will be held from 10 AM – noon, limited to 50 preregistered people. Bring a root ball, your soil health test results, and questions for discussion with the experts. Cost for the Advanced Morning Session, lunch, afternoon session and dinner is $50 and you must be preregistered.
