Sale Funds Scholarships for Women

Yates AAUW Book Sale Coming to Penn Yan Sidewalk Sale

Rain or shine on Saturday, July 28, the Yates County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its annual book sale at the Penn Yan Sidewalk Sale, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Proceeds from the sale on Main Street will be used to fund an annual scholarship for a Yates County woman wanting to return to her academic studies.

“The book selection is always terrific, and everybody loves to browse and shop for their summer reading,” said co-president Jean MacAlpine. “The AAUW book sale is a great cause for our community.” Prices will be 75 cents for paperbacks and $1.25 for hardcover books.

Collection boxes for book donations will be placed in the following Penn Yan bank branches for the month of July prior to the sale: Five Star Bank, Community Bank N.A. (downtown), Lyons National Bank and Community Bank N.A. (Lake Street Plaza). For those unable to drop off their book donations, please call (802) 236-3812 or (315) 305-4013.

The Mission of AAUW is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Its Value Promise is that by joining AAUW, you belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
