Summer Block Party iCal

Sunday, June 24 2012 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival and the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce will host the “Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival Block Party” featuring the annual “Flavor of the Finger Lakes” on Sunday, June 24 from 1-5 p.m. in downtown Auburn.
The community is invited to celebrate the inaugural year of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival and enjoy the culinary wonders of Cayuga County and the Finger Lakes during the joint event.
A variety of activities are planned including open houses and tours at the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival’s downtown venues – Auburn Public Theater and Theater Mack. Guests are also welcome to view the plans for the Schwartz Family Performing Arts Center in the lobby of the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce office.
The day will include performances by New York City street performers Parallel Exit, piano renditions of show tunes in Auburn Public Theater’s Stage Right, and live music on Exchange Street, provided by the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). Vendors will set up on Exchange Street to offer samples and sell food, wine, and other culinary confections. There will be showings of some of the first “talkies” (first movies with sound) at Theater Mack. Other downtown Auburn historical and cultural sites will be open.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating the dream of the Festival becoming a reality, we’ve got some great things planned for this inaugural season” said Ed Sayles, producing artistic director of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival.
As part of the day, the Chamber will also host the first ever "Chamber half-mile Garage Run" starting at noon. The cost to participate in the Garage Run is $15 per person, which includes a complimentary “Flavor of the Finger Lakes” wine glass for participants 21 an older. There is a $10 entry fee for participants under 21.
“The Chamber is thrilled to once again bring wonderful food and beverage establishments together for the enjoyment of our community,” said Andrew Fish, executive director, Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce. “We hope everyone will come out to join us as we celebrate the arts, culture, and culinary bounty of our region!”
Downtown businesses are encouraged to support the event by opening their doors and displaying balloons in the Festival’s colors of red and white. Please contact the Festival at 315-255-1305 x20 to arrange for balloons to be delivered at no charge to the businesses.
