Our Seneca County Community Garden, located in Seneca Falls between the Seneca Cayuga canal and Ferrara Lumber, is seeing lots of new activity this month, as preparations continue for the second growing season. The garden committee is meeting weekly and we have great expectations that this will be a growing place that our community can truly enjoy for many years. This year, there are 30 4'x 8' garden plots available to individuals, families and groups to garden. Mentors will also be available to offer advice in the skills of gardening.
To sign up for a plot, please contact Brittany Bruning at 315-712-4124. The fee for one plot for the whole growing season is $8.00. Plots will be assigned first come, first served and a waiting list will be created should more plots become available.
Proceeds will benefit the community gardens needs list for future growth. Currently members of the garden are raising funds to purchase a watering tank to provide an adequate water supply for the whole growing season.
Monthly Garden parties with dish-to-pass suppers and engaging speakers on a variety of gardening topics will be offered. All are invited. The first Garden Party will be Monday, May 21st at 6:00 pm at the garden and will include a plant exchange of both perennial and vegetable plants. For more information on this event contact Rebecca VonBergen, garden manager, at 315-651-2044.
Have your own garden or want to start a new garden at home? Come to the community garden to harvest growing ideas from our volunteers and mentors. All are welcome to be part of this community program.
