Walk and Talk for Health iCal

Wednesday, April 11 2012 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM

One hundred area residents took steps toward getting healthier the first week of April by attending the kick off of Finger Lakes Health’s Walk & Talk for Health program.
Walks continue next week and everyone is welcome – continuing walkers, walkers from last season who didn’t get to the first walk, and newcomers alike. Come join Finger Lakes Health providers for a brief walk, informal discussion and prizes.
Walks will begin at 5:30 p.m. and last 30 minutes each at three sites: Tuesdays in Penn Yan, Wednesdays in Geneva and Thursdays in Waterloo. The next dates by site are:
Penn Yan: Tuesdays, April 17, May 1, 15 and 29, and June 12 and 26.
Geneva: Wednesdays, April 18, May 2, 16 and 30, and June 13 and 27.
Waterloo: Thursdays, April 19, May 3 and 17 and June 7 and 21.
Penn Yan walks are held on the Keuka Outlet Trail, starting at the former Pudgie’s Pizza park on Lake Street. Enter the park between Liberty and Main streets.
Geneva walks start at the Lakefront Park Gazebo on Seneca Lake by the Chamber of Commerce.
Waterloo walks begin near the entrance to Huntington Living Center.
All walkers will be given an opportunity to be part of the “What’s My Number” health improvement group at the second walk. Walkers will have their blood pressure and body mass index checked, and will be given vouchers for blood work to check their cholesterol and A1C (glucose) – all free of charge.
Walkers are encouraged to bring family and friends; wear sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and comfortable walking shoes and to bring water.
No reservations are needed, but those wishing more information can call Finger Lakes Health’s Community Services Department at (315) 531-2053 or 787-4636 or visit the website at www.flhealth.org/walktalk.
