Wednesday, April 25 2012 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

The Autism Center at Ontario ARC has partnered with Upstate New York Families for Effective Autism Treatment to bring renowned autism expert Dr. Jed Baker to the Finger Lakes.  He will lead a full-day seminar on April 25 entitled, “No More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors and Teaching Social Skills.”

Held at Bristol Harbour Resort in Canandaigua, this workshop will help families, teachers and other professionals better understand the difficulties of social interactions and regulating emotions for children and teens with autism.  In addition, Dr. Baker will address:

  • Strategies to deal effectively with meltdowns and put effective behavior plans to work
  • Pulling together a social skills training program in school and at home
  • Creating programs for typical peers to accept students with disabilities
  • How to motivate verbal and non-verbal students to socialize.

Dr. Baker has traveled around the world speaking about autism and social skill development.  He is currently the director of the Social Skills Training Project, a private organization serving individuals with autism and other social communication problems.  He also directs social skill training for Millburn Public Schools in New Jersey.  His work has been featured on CBS, ABC and The Discovery Health Channel.

Seating to the seminar is limited and costs $140 for professionals and $120 for families and students.  To learn more about No More Meltdowns or reserve your spot, please contact The Autism Center at (585) 919-2188 or theautismcenter@ontarioarc.org.
