Color is, at its core, light. The excitement and speed of red, the peace and inspiration of blue, the joy and creativity symbolized by yellow - those expressions of light give depth, vibrancy and definition to our world and our lives. Celebrate all the color of the world around us at the opening of “Color Our World” on Friday, June 20th from 5-7 pm at the Arts Center of Yates County in Penn Yan.
Rochester painter Rachel Cordero’s whimsical and cheerful flower paintings grow straight from her imagination. Abstract landscapes, many with hot, bright colors, are characteristic of the paintings of Dr. Nicholas Down of Dryden, NY. For Prattsburg glass artist Leon Applebaum, use of the color spectrum and trapping air to create bubbles in optically thick glass are the design elements that define his work. Joining Cordero, Down, and Applebaum in celebrating all the colors of the world around us are many of the Arts Center’s local member artists, working in a variety of mediums from paint to clay and wood, to jewelry.
The exhibit will run from June 20 to July 28 at the Arts Center, located at 127 Main Street in Penn Yan. The exhibit opening on Friday, June 20 is free and open to the public. Stop by to chat with the artists, sample craft brews created by Penn Yan’s new LyonSmith Brewery, enjoy the music of Barbara Anderson and enjoy a variety of light hors d’oeuvres.
