Sunday, June 1 2014 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
The Penn Yan Community Chorus Spring Concert, entitled "Music for Children (of All Ages!)," will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at the First Baptist Church in Penn Yan. Admission is free of charge, with a reception to follow.
PYCC Director Jenn Kraemer has chosen a program of music that will appeal to children and the child inside all of us. The music includes a lively arrangement of “Skip to My Lou,” a musical version of Aesop’s “The Tortoise and the Hare,” a Disney medley, Offenbach’s “Can You Can-Can?” as well as madrigal versions of Mother Goose rhymes. Also in the program are “MLK,” a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, and John Rutter’s interpretation of “When the Saints Come Marching In.” Rounding out the Community Chorus’ offerings will be the Shaker hymn “Simple Gifts,” and a hauntingly beautiful anthem, “Sing Me to Heaven.” Soloists include Barry Winter, Gareth Fishbaugh, Becky Townley, and Barbara Pinneo.
The Penn Yan Community Chorus will share the stage with the St. Michael’s School Chorus, who will perform “Reflections of a Lad at Sea,” and join the Community Chorus for “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Soloists from St. Michael’s are Kaitlin Stork, Christian Reinard, William Steele, and Alek Barker.
Both choruses will be accompanied by Lucinda Loomis.
All PYCC concerts are supported by free-will offerings collected during intermission, and the chorus has been hosted by the Penn Yan First Baptist Church for most of its nearly four decades' worth of performances.
